Two debut albums The Endless Procession and Our Ancestors' Intense Love Affair released on the label Hymen records in 2006 showed the potential of the American musician Ginormous (Bryan Konietzko) and made many fans of IDM music wait impatiently for his future musical works. At last recently the new full-length CD - At Night, Under Artificial Light has appeared. This album made us understand that under the cover there is something more than just IDM. The author uses complicated acoustic backings and the sounding of symphony orchestra organically harmonizing with general emotional, pushing, bright sound structure.Ginormous keeps giving preference to expressive, weightful rhythms of distinct hip-hop nature. In each track we are filled with powerful stream of shining drive sound. The skeleton of strong, sometimes impacted drums and bass section is supplemented by dense layers of fine melody and deep atmosphere sound modulations filling the whole sound tract.
The title of the album and the photos of night city on its cover perfectly express the album’s concept and mood. Bryan plunges us into the atmosphere of a night city, he makes us move along its central streets lightened by ads and windows as well as through dark districts with numerous sections of industrial buildings, the only source of light here is the remore lamp pole. We watch the city from the insight or from the window of our flat scourged by shades of various domestic things lightened by a small table lamp. Dense rhythmical basis and piquant electronic percussion, numerous colorful melodies, impressive acoustic backings and, of no doubt, original sounding make the release At Night, Under Artificial Light one of the most remarkable albums on the Hymen records.
