One of the recent pleasant discoveries for me became the modest German label Palacmusic. The creator of this small music island is Peter Prautzsch, in discography one can find only releases of Peter himself (under his real name and pseudonym Palac). In the first case you can hear the deep, gloomy drone ambient using field records, in the second – the same but with winding rhythms, glitches, rustling and crackle. I became familiar with the discography of Palacmusic and I must say, I got a pleasure. Nowadays there are many people who make experiments with records of the surrounding world, with their digital arrangement and so on... Though a huge number of these experiments may be interesting only for the authors and their friends. But Peter Prautzsch manages to make hardly genius, though interesting and refined works, voluminous works deepening inside their content.
Compilation Talking to Ghosts seems to be one of the rarest cases when the remake of musical composition gets better than the original. It's the first release by Palacmusic with invited musicians. Such people and projects as El Fog, Tilman Ehrhorn, Ennio Mazzon, Jerome Pergolesi, NQ, Talkigmakesnosense, Moze, Rechenzentrum, Sonicbrat, Beneva vs. Clark Nova and Palac himself created tracks using the material from the previous album of Palac called Ghosts. Reinterpretation turned to be extremely entertaining – as we can see, in the work were engaged the young as well as already eminent musicians. As the result they made Talking to Ghosts an original alloy of very viscous, deep ambient with soft and warm glitch. And each track is interesting in its own way. For example, we can point out the remix for "Golpa North" by the magnificent Tilman Ehrhorn reminding very much of his release Task on label Mille Plateaux being in oblivion now. One more member of this German label is project Rechenzentrum, it is represented by one track "The Ghosts Of Derry 72" made in their specialty and recognizable style. To all appearance, this Berlin research centre proceeds its musical experiments, mixing electronical sounds of different colors, takes it from different test tubes and rules the slow stream of reaction. While listening to Talking to Ghosts the spirit of Mille Plateaux constantly hovers nearby – beauty and aesthetics of failure in digital musical techniques is demonstrated by this very label best of all. I think all admirers of this theme must get acquainted with the new release by Palacmusic.
