Goatika - Artsound

Goatika - ArtsoundNot quite ordinary release is brought to our attention by the team Goatika. This DVD includes the joint work of musicians and an artist Alexey Zagorodnyh. As a result of their creative symbiosis appeared this disc Artsound and two wonderful pictures sold by auction at the performance. The release's design is rather professional and makes an impression of a collection thing. Starting with printing quality and up to the choice of case type, everything is done at high level (friendly speaking, I didn't expect to see it on Citadel records). The only thing to find fault with were fonts which are terribly banal but that's only trifle. Though the content is not so pretentious. Improvised performance by Goatika reminds sometimes more of a rehearsal or instruments' tuning. During the whole disc it seems that the team tries to find its own sounding playing first ambient in Pete Namlook's style, then funk or even hip-hop. Despite this fact, their music is rather pleasant and it's conciliative. Of course, I didn't feel any revelation, nevertheless I didn't have a wish to stop the record as quick as possible.

The whole performance Artsound takes place in one of Voronezh clubs. Having settled in rather limited space with lots of equipment and two canvas, musicians and the artist inspire each other by their creative work. To be honest, such idea for performance is something new for me, especially when the authors are my countrymen. That's interesting to observe how during the performance Alexey Zagorodnyh's and musicians' pictures gain more complete look. Though to my dilettantish mind, the result was something abstract, all the same it looks not bad, at least there's something common with music. I'd like to point out team's performance level. They play so harmoniously that I am tormented by vague doubts concerning improvisation. I'm sure that there were some home sketches. Perhaps Artem Yakushenko followed the idea of improvisation most of all. His skills of playing violin and mandolin (that small electro guitar on this video) are really worth respect.
It seems to me that Artsound was planned to be performed for close circle of acquaintance and friend of team's members. Playing well, guys didn't work flat out, though the idea's originality compensates it a little.
