Four-disc box set Nah und Fern of legendary project Gas was released this year on the 5th of June on German techno-label Kompakt. The leader is the tireless musician Wolfgang Voigt, the founder of label Kompakt, he also hidens under other numerous pseudonyms. There was time when his records on label Warp were edited under the nickname Mike Ink, he is also considered to have implemented such notion as minimal-tech, undoubtedly authentic, genious person!Besides four remastered albums of Gas, Zauberberg, Konigsforst and Pop (some of them earlier released on legendary German Mille Plateaux) this fairy box set Nah und Fern also includes four photos from the wood core, but still the most important component here is music.
Ambient and of course hypnotic techno. Slightly damped techno and misty ambient are tightly connected with nature, with its landscapes, green trees, lakes, underwater parks of algae and pure oxygen.
Some kind of lurking evergreen springboard, hidden in a nice dark blue box, some wood which can hide you in its hugs and shelter from annoying city noises. I'm sure that for the listeners and fans of this music it will be lack of deliquescent and a little bit melancholic sounds. For along time you'll be unable to stop listening to all four albums, it may last even for several weeks - long walks through illusory universe of Wolfgang Voigt.
One more successful attempt to change the surrounding reality with the help of sounds.
